Welcome!
Thank you for being a Team Captain for
the 2007 Comcast Hands On Greater Portland Cares Day!
You will be making a huge difference in our community,
so get ready to clean, fix, paint and landscape to
improve our schools and other nonprofits in need.

Teams make Cares Day happen - Team
Captains are the force behind the force! You, our
friends and champions, are a big part of the "how" we
get 1,300 volunteers out on a single day.
So, what next?
Recruit at least 10 people to
volunteer with you at the Comcast/Hands On Greater
Portland Cares Day. Ask your family, friends, neighbors,
co-workers, faith community to join you in a rewarding day
of giving back! You will lead your team through the
registration process, but don’t worry, Hands On staff
will be on hand to answer any questions, assist in
registration and provide you with any materials you may
need.
Get recognition for your
efforts!
Teams will be listed in the Cares Day
program and the largest teams will be honored at the
celebration party. You can also make your team stand out
by wearing themed T-shirts, caps or buttons.
Five recruiting tips

Paint the picture.
Focus on the rewards of serving others and the fun
you’ll have doing it. This is what the day is all about
- an unbeatable feeling to see the impact that you’ve
made!

Make it fun. Create a
theme or team concept that excites people and wear
themed T-shirts or hats. Distribute information provided
by Hands On Greater Portland! Send emails or cards to
your friends and contacts.

Invite Co-Captains.
Enlist your friends, family or coworkers - the
multiplier affect works wonders.

Engage your workplace!
Discuss Cares Day at a staff meeting.
Put a notice in your company newsletter or enews,
internal website, bulletin board, or calendar.

Engage your management.
Call principal
members of your organization, tell them about your
involvement, get them excited and gain their endorsement
and participation. They’ll be happy that you are helping
your company serve the community. Let your coworkers
know you have their support.
TC’s are
eligible for great prizes!
Team captains that bring the largest teams will be
thanked with special gifts: Dinner at Higgins and an
overnight stay at the Westin, dinner at the Red Star
Roast House and much more.

Click on "My Volunteer Page" on
the left side menu

Log in or register if you are new
to the system

Once logged in, select "Create a
volunteering team" on the right side of screen

On "Tab 1: Description" enter Cares Day 07

Would you like your team to be
open or closed to the public?

On "Tab 2: Invite team members" - each
member you designate will automatically receive an
email inviting them to join your team. They can
accept by following the link in the email.
Team members under 16 years: You will
need to call the Hands On office to sign them up for
Cares Day, (503) 413-7787. All participants under the
age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

View your options and then click
to select your project

Choose "Select one of my Teams."
Note: New members who
join your team after you have registered for a project
will not automatically be registered. You will have to
add them - see instructions below in "Manage your team."
Manage your team.
Anytime you want to view the status of
your team, email your team members or add new team
members, log in to
www.handsonportland.org, click on "My Projects,"
find your team in the Special Events section and choose,
"Manage Team." You may add and remove team members at
this location.
