Opportunity Details

January Spay Patrol w/ Oregon Humane Society! (age 18+) *MLK 2012*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Be one of 2,100 volunteers honoring the legacy of Dr. King through meaningful service to communities throughout the Greater Portland area.

A Spay Patrol is a targeted canvassing event in a neighborhood with a high concentration of stray and feral cats and a large number of cats coming in to local shelters. We will canvass the neighborhood and distribute door hangers and flyers with information about the Spay & Save program.

This is a great opportunity to have fun, enjoy some fresh air, and connect with other animal lovers, while working to reduce pet overpopulation. Event participants will be split into groups, and each group will be assigned a neighborhood section to target. There will be both business and residential sections. Walking maps, flyers, snacks and water will be provided. No experience required, just come on out and canvass with us!

Spay & Save is a Portland Metro area program that assists low income families and their cats by offering affordable spay and neuter surgeries for those who qualify. Spay & Save is organized and managed by the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland (ASAP), a partnership of local animal shelters, county animal services agencies, and professional veterinary associations. By spreading awareness of our low cost spay & neuter program, we are hoping to reduce the number of cats and kittens that end up in area shelters and most of all, help people and their cats!

Comfortable walking shoes, rain gear, and a snack. We will be doing lots of walking!

**Win a Kindle Fire by recruiting four or more volunteers to join you over MLK Weekend! Click here for details.
