Bundle Literacy Materials for Kids (age 15+) *Hands On*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Every kid should arrive at kindergarten ready for school success. Our vision at Early Learning Multnomah (ELM) is that every child in Multnomah County is prepared to succeed at in school and life, regardless of race, ethnicity or class. To make that happen, we’re focusing on kids ages 0–6, especially children living in poverty and children of color. This supports United Way of the Columbia-Willamette’s larger goal of breaking the cycle of childhood poverty in the four-county region.

This Spring, help us promote literacy skills for very young children by putting together culturally-specific "literacy bundles" -- made up of family literacy activity guides -- for distribution to thousands of kids across the Greater Portland region this season. Thanks to a grant from the State of Oregon, Early Learning Multnomah has worked with culturally specific organizations, the Multnomah County Library, and the Children’s Book Bank for the past several months to create culturally responsive tools that parents can use with their young children to help get them ready for kindergarten.

Volunteers will help by bundling family literacy activity guides with an activity "wheel" into baggies for distribution to local culturally-specific organizations that serve children and families.

This is a great indoor volunteer role for folks who prefer to be seated as they work. Manual dexterity is required. Come with a smile and bring a snack to keep you fueled as we work to create 3,000+ bundles of literacy materials in just three hours!
