Support Native Plants in McKay Creek (age 12+)

This event builds on both the efforts of the SOLVE Green Team students at Glencoe High School and the efforts of community volunteers - like YOU!

Volunteers will be maintaining native plantings of past events by mulching around them for weed barrier and water retention through the hot summer. Invasive plants will be removed.

1,000+ native plants have been planted and maintained in this upland location that is adjacent to a large wetland complex and is part of a significantwildlife corridor on lower McKay Creek. Invasive plants at the site include Himalayan blackberry, morning glory, purple nightshade, English Holly, cherry, and small amounts of English hawthorn.

Dress in layers of clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Shoes should be sturdy, close-toed, and able to get dirty/muddy. Please bring a filled water bottle and wear sunscreen.

SOLVE's mission is to bring Oregonians together to improve our environment and build a legacy of stewardship.  As a part of HillsDoer Day you will be impacting the SOLVE mission by coming together in a natural area to fill your senses and interact with native plants in caring for their survival. You'll get to know more about the site restoration history and are encouraged to return time and again to see how your care has helped native plants thrive to provide ecosystem services for improved wildlife habitat and cleaner water.

Court-ordered volunteers: provide your court documentation for the event coordinator to sign after the event concludes. If you need one, SOLVE has a generic community service credit form for you to print out and bring with you to the event to be signed as above. Download this form from the SOLVE website or call 503-844-9571, ext 332 for assistance.
