Animal Socialization at OHS! (age 12+) *Hands On*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Come show the dogs and cats at the Oregon Humane Society some love!

This session starts out with a 45 minute training/tour.* The training includes information on the shelter and animal handling skills and a volunteer session on socializing with the dogs in our outside yards (bring a coat if the weather is not good) and visiting time in colony rooms with the cats. Your volunteer session will help us give the animals the attention they crave and help them develop the social skills they need to find new homes.  Due to the nature of the work, all volunteers must be able to squat, stand, bend, lift and twist for long periods of time.

For the safety reasons, all participants must wear long pants and non-slip, closed toed shoes (tennis shoes, boots, etc.) when volunteering at the shelter.  Hanging jewelry is not allowed and facial piercing must be removed or covered with a band-aid.  Those not dressed appropriately cannot participate, so please come prepared!  Also, we have very jumpy dogs that may soil your clothing, so choose your attire accordingly.

OHS has limited parking and we ask that volunteers kindly park on 11th Ave. or across Columbia Blvd. in our overflow parking lot.  This leaves more spaces available to potential adopters.  Thanks for your help with this matter!

The Oregon Humane Society’s mission is to foster an environment of respect, responsibility, and compassion for all animals through education, legislation, and leadership; to care for the homeless, to defend the abused, and to fight with unrelenting diligence for recognition of the integrity of all animals.

*If you've already been out on this project and you know you love volunteering with OHS, consider making a longer term commitment by getting trained and signing up with OHS directly by following this link
