Opportunity Details

Serve Thanksgiving Dinner at Ronald McDonald House (East) (age 8+) *Hands On*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Our mission is to provide "a home away from home" for families with seriously ill children, and supports initiatives to improve pediatric health. Volunteers will be providing a Thanksgiving meal to help families feel more at home during the holidays.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

Please park in the upper parking lot (the first one you see when you turn onto our road) or in one of the parking garages We try to leave the lot closest to the House open for our guests. If you need to unload anything, please pull in to the closest lot to unload, and then move your vehicle afterwards. Please get in touch with Lindsay if we need to adjust this plan at all.

Parking Garages:
• Parking Structure 3: top and bottom levels only, the spots without      "Patient/Visitor" markings on them.
• Parking Structures 1 & 4 (North side of campus): top levels only
• Surface lots: West of the construction site and in between  Vancouver/Williams)

WHEN YOU VOLUNTEER

Volunteers will be arriving at 2pm and warming up the food (we will let them know where all the food is to bring up and start warming up). Le Cordon Blue is generously donating our entire Thanksgiving meal to us and that is what the volunteers will pull out and heat up and place out and then serve to the families. They will be setting the table w/placemats, filling up water pitchers, re-setting the table for another family to come in and eat if a family finishes and leaves so we can make room for another family to come in.

We encourage and would love volunteers to sit down and eat with the families and also have volunteers watching the buffet to keep it replenished. Thanksgiving Dinner will be ready to be out and served at 3pm and can be left out for 2 hrs. Volunteers will be serving until 5pm and then all leftovers will need to be tupperwared away in the red dot fridge (staff person will be on-site to assist with this).

Volunteers will need to wear gloves while serving food to families and also during putting away food in the red dot fridge. Volunteers will also need to keep their hair pulled back if applicable.

Please be aware that a lot of our families may not want to celebrate holidays or prefer to keep more to themselves depending on where they're at. We also have several families with children who are battling very severe eating disorders and have a very personalized meal plan where they need to cook for themselves, just to be sensitive and respectful of our families needs and privacy also.
