Green the Farm (age 10+) *STW 2016*

We will be preparing the Farm for our busy summer camp and harvest season with a variety of projects. Volunteers will work alongside farmers to weed and prepare the fields, or with educators to prepare materials and clean the classrooms and kitchen facilities. Zenger Farm is a working urban farm that models, promotes and educates about sustainable food systems, environmental stewardship, community development and access to good food for all.

Zenger Farm is an educational farm in Outer Southeast Portland that models, promotes and educates about sustainable food systems, environmental stewardship, community development and access to good food for all. We operate educational programs such as field trips and summer camps, cooking classes for families and adults, the Lents International Farmers Market, and farm operations including a 60 member CSA. Zenger is a regional leader in it's educational approachs and programs such as the first SNAP match at a farmers market in Portland and an innovative CSA model that accepts SNAP for payment.

Wear comfortable and weather appropriate clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Close toed shoes are a must. Zenger Farm has lots of work gloves you can use, but feel free to bring your own if you like. Bring a water bottle and sunscreen.

Note: Volunteers age 10-14 may volunteer along with a responsible adult.

Project Requirements:

  • All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a Hands On Youth Waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian.  (print it now, fill it out, and bring it with you to save time during project check in).

  • If you plan to bring children/additional volunteers you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project. Questions? Email teams@handsonportland.org 

    IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. To add or remove team members from a project: log in to your volunteer account and click "Manage My Team" next to the appropriate upcoming opportunity.
