Opportunity Details
Community Farm at OFB Learning Garden (age 0+) *Hands On*
Oregon Food Bank's Community Farm is a 3/4 acre site next to OFB's warehouse on NE 33rd Dr. where community members can learn to grow food under the instruction of a farmer-educator. The farm is operated in partnership with MudBone Grown. Volunteers grow food collaboratively, learn new skills, and take home a share of the harvest for free. Additional produce is distributed to hunger-relief agencies throughout Portland.
Community farming is a great way to learn how to grow food using organic methods, get regular exercise and meet others in your community. Typical field work tasks include planting, weeding, digging and harvesting. No prior experience is necessary; training will be provided. The garden is open rain or shine, so please be sure to dress for the weather. No open toed shoes please!
If you are a court-ordered volunteer, you will need to contact Oregon Food Bank directly to determine whether you are eligible to volunteer. Please contact Andrea Nelson at volunteer@oregonfoodbank.org or 971-230-1672.
