Support Families as an Overnight Shelter Volunteer (age 21+) Referral
Are you interested in helping homeless families with children, but are not available during daytime hours? Volunteering as an "overnight host" at a local church (Hillsboro, Aloha, Forest Grove) for homeless families in the Family Promise shelter program from 8pm-7am (on weekdays) or from 8pm-8am (on weekends) might be the right opportunity for you!
Overnight hosts are not expected to stay awake and can sleep in a private room at the church. Family Promise requires two overnight hosts each night. Responsibilities include: greeting and making our families feel comfortable, securing the building for the night, reminding families of wake up time and morning routines, and closing the church after everyone has left.
Benefits include: enjoying evening time (conversation, crafts, games, movies, etc.) with families in a fun and relaxing atmosphere and helping families start their day the next morning.
"Overnight hosts" make a priceless contribution to the Family Promise shelter and host churches that provide overnight accomodations for homeless families with children. A background check is required and the minimum required age is 21. Orientation and training is provided.
