Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Be one of 2,100 volunteers honoring the legacy of Dr. King through meaningful service to communities throughout the Greater Portland area.


Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of fun projects at Peninsula Park Community Center:

  • Indoor Park Toy Car Wash! Help us spruce up our toy cars by scrubbin’ and sanitizing them. We will also clean and organize the sports closet and sort out/repair equipment.
  • Basement organizing! Help us sort and organize our supplies and clean out the basement.
  • Bulletin Board Blitz! We have five bulletin boards that need some TLC. Get your creative juices flowing and help us put them together.
  • Good Old Fashioned Yard Work! Grab your gloves and help with some raking, weeding, edging, bark chip combing, etc
Volunteers should wear clothes that can get dirty and if working outside, please dress for rain and bring work gloves.

Project Requirements:

  • Please fill out this MLK Adult & Youth Waiver and bring it with you to the project. All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian.
  • Volunteers must be 0 years of age or older to attend this project; any volunteer under age 13 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.

  • If you plan to bring children or guests you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. To add or remove team members from a project, click on "My Account" and then "My Teams," above.
