Reach Out and Write to Prisoners! (age 16+) *Hands On*
Portland Books to Prisoners and other fine local organizations, present Reach Out and Write Night, a writing to political prisoners event. Letters can help lessen the feelings of isolation felt by many people in prison, and also put institutions on notice that someone on the outside cares that people are being treated in a humane and responsible way. Please come join with us in a relaxed setting for this worthwhile undertaking on behalf of prisoners.
Books to Prisoners mails literature and educational books to people all over the country who are incarcerated. Books to Prisoners reaches out to prisoners nationwide with literature and educational materials that help them pass the time and educate themselves.
The Jericho Movement is an organization devoted to raising awareness of political prisoners in the United States.
Project Requirements:
- Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to attend this project.
- If you plan to bring guests to the event, you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team. You can then sign up your team for this project.
- All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project: Youth Volunteer Release Form
