Get Creative with Refugee Kids: Wednesday Evening Art Teacher (age 18+) Referral

ABOUT US:
Kateri Park is an affordable housing community, located just south of Powell on 28th Avenue. In more than half of our apartments, the residents are refugees. The largest group is from Somalia, but we also have some Burmese, Afghani, and Nepali refugee families.

WANTED: ART LEADERS!

On Wednesday evenings, let your creativity shine! Join us as we organize an art class for 20 of our kids who work on individual and collective art projects like drawing, cut outs, and collages. We need some awesome art-minded and energetic individuals to lead art projects with the class on Wednesday afternoons from 4:30pm - 6:30pm (art class itself is from 5pm - 6pm, but requires prep and clean-up time). A weekly commitment is preferred, but if we have a couple of art teachers, switching off weeks is more than welcome! Check out our calendar project posting here: Get Artsy with Multicultural Kids (age 16+) *Hands On*

YOUR ROLES AS AN ART LEADER:

As the art leader, you will be supported each week by a Hands On volunteer leader and a group of Hands On volunteers to help the kids with the art activities. Your primary responsibility will be to come up with fun and creative projects for the kids, prep the supplies, demonstrate the project at the beginning of each class, and help the kids ignite their imaginations! Please note that we have some art supplies available for you to use on site, and we will also reimburse you for small purchases for the art projects.

Look forward to an exciting opportunity to explore art with kids from Somalia, Ethiopia, Burma and Nepal, each week. You'll really make a difference.

Please know that you will be working with a high energy group of kids coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. Patience, flexibility, and fun are important ingredients to bring with you to the position! Previous experience working with kids is very helpful.

In addition to the Wednesday art classes, Kateri Park offers literacy/ESL classes, homework help, pick up soccer games in summer, one-on-one tutoring for the students, and more.
