Be A Kid Again! (age 21+) Referral
Join us for our annual "Be A Kid Again" event! This year... The Museum Goes to Camp!
If you ask someone what one of their favorite childhood memories is, a lot of people will list Summer Camp as a top favorite. In honor of summer, and this favorite past time, The Portland Children’s Museum is going to CAMP for our "Be A Kid Again" annual fundraiser. So often in our lives we get too busy to have some fun, and even taking a moment to simply remember what it was like to ‘be a kid’ can bring great joy.
Why not spend an evening doing this by: playing some games, eating some delicious food, helping with the silent and live auctions and even rounding up attendees as a “camp counselor” with your official clip board! Volunteers get to have just as much fun as the attendees, if not more!

Time
4:00-10:30pm, various shifts available
Shifts are two hours each, but volunteers are welcome to volunteer for more than one shift.
Attire
We ask that all volunteers wear “camp attire” of khaki pants or shorts and black t-shirts. We will provide additional camp accessories such as bandanas, clip boards, whistles, etc. If you have a camp-like hat or baseball hat, feel free to wear it! And... Welcome to Camp!
Volunteer Positions
Volunteers for Set up and Clean Up
Number Needed: 12
Help make our summer camp really feel like camp for our campers before they arrive OR help us wrap up the wonderful camp experience after all of our campers have gone home. If you enjoy busy activity, setting up, cleaning up, and being a part of a fun group, then we want you!
Volunteer for Games: Archery and Boat Races
Number Needed: 8
Help attendees let loose and play some fun games. The two games we will have are archery and boat races. If you enjoy playing games and helping others to play and have fun this is the volunteer area for you!
Volunteers as Greeters
Number Needed: 6
Welcome the attendees to summer camp. If you have an enthusiastic attitude and an active imagination, we want you! Help welcome the attendees to their evening at summer camp. Our goal is to have the guests feel as though they’ve entered another world, and perhaps traveled back in time to when they were a kid, going to camp for the summer!
Volunteers in Arts and Focus
Number Needed: 4
Do you enjoy nature and working with arts and crafts? Do you have experience being crafty and working with others in group activities? If so, we want you! Help our attendees revisit their crafting days with elements of the outdoors!
Volunteers in Food and Beverage
Number Needed: 9
The mess hall was always one of the craziest, and most fun, areas of summer camp. Please help to keep ours fun, but not too crazy. If you have previous experience as a server in a restaurant, or any customer service experience, we want you! Please help our guests enjoy the food and beverage we provide for them. We of course want you to enjoy the food and beverage as well. We will have a designated area for you to do so, but please know we appreciate you being there and value you as one of our volunteers, so the same food and beverage is available to you all, we just ask that you use your judgment and are courteous of others. We do reserve the right to cut anyone off from alcohol and ask that staff and volunteers respect the two drink maximum. And of course, you must be 21 or over to volunteer in this position.
Volunteers Selling Raffle tickets and Heads or Tails
Number Needed: 8
What is one thing everyone comes away with after being at summer camp? Friends! Do you enjoy meeting new people and making friends? Then this job is for you! Two of the smaller fundraising activities we have at "Be A Kid Again" are the raffle tickets (for some fabulous prizes) and Heads or Tails. If you enjoy meeting new friends and chatting with them about how much you love the Portland Children’s Museum, we want you!
Volunteers as Silent and Live Auction Runners
Number Needed: TBD
If you ask, most will not argue, one of the best parts of summer camp were the camp-wide games! Think of the Auctions a little like that. The entire camp is participating, and you are the scouts, running to the campers, retrieving their “flag” and bringing it back to base. If you have experience being a runner in an auction, we want you! If you enjoy excitement and a fast paced environment, we want you too!
Volunteers as Silent and Live Auction Baggers
Number Needed: 10
Remember when the camp counselors would pass out care packages to their campers? Or help them pack their bags for overnights? Or even sadly, to go home? Well this is kind of like that! Our attendees will be purchasing fabulous items from our auctions in honor or raising money for the Portland Children’s Museum and the many kiddos who come here to play, imagine, and discover. If you enjoy fast paced activities, organizing and assembly lines, this job is for you! Help our guests go home with ease and excitement as you bag up their “care packages” for them and send them on their way.
Volunteers as Camp Leaders
Number Needed: 12
They keep us safe, they keep us organized, often if you went to camp and loved it so very much, that camp would be seeing you again when you were older, as a camp counselor. If you enjoy being a leader, and organizing and motivating your team, this job is for you! Each attendee will be assigned to a “camp” and their Camp Leader, that’s you, will be in charge of gathering them up and leading them on to their next activity. If you enjoy working with people, keeping them organized, and motivating them to have some fun, we want you!
