Cook It Up: Mealtime at Clark Center (age 4+) *Hands On*
Since 1969, Transition Projects has helped thousands of people transcend the streets of Portland. On any given day — today, for example — they’re making the difference in hundreds of lives, providing the tools people need as they transition from homelessness to housing. They offer long-term shelter, plus a unique mix of valuable services that helps people overcome their own barriers to stable housing and employment. Services like job training, continuing education, alcohol, drug and mental health counseling, and more. Along the way, they also impart the kind of valuable life skills most of us take for granted, such as how to manage a checking account, write a resume, fill out a job application, and, ultimately, negotiate a lease. None of these things can happen without more than a thousand annual volunteers, and help from people like you.
From stock in the Clark Center's Food Closet, we'll prepare tonight's meal and then serve it to the residents in this 90-bed transitional housing shelter for men.
Project Requirements:
-
This project is great for families with children 4 and up. There must be one adult present for every three youth, and young children must stay in the kitchen area at all times.
-
If you plan to bring your children to the event, you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team. You can then sign up your team for this project.
-
All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project: Youth Volunteer Release Form
