Opportunity Details

Spruce Up the Springwater Corridor (age 8+) *CCD 2013*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Join over 1,800 volunteers for Comcast Cares Day 2013!

Work alongside Portland Parks & Rec, the Johnson Creek Watershed Council, Gilbert Park Elementary students and Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood volunteers in a day of beautifying the much-used Springwater Corridor Trail! We'll be removing invasive species, such as English ivy and Himalayan blackberry, to help the native plants thrive. This area is within the Johnson Creek Watershed and the removal of the invasive species and encouragement of the native species will limit the erosion into the creek and encourage healthier habitat for wildlife.

Please wear long pants and sleeves - preferably thick, to avoid blackberry thorns. Warm clothes, rain gear, a warm hat, and sturdy shoes are recommended.

We'll provide the tools to do the job, water, and hot drinks to keep everyone warm. Bring a water bottle if you have one!

Volunteers are encouraged to bike to the event, along the Springwater Cooridor bike path, so you have a sense for the area we'll be improving! You can find a map of the Springwater Cooridor bike path here: www.PortlandOregon.gov/parks/springwatermap

We'll be working at the intersection of SE 128th Ave and the Springwater Cooridor Trail, near SE Reedway St.

Portland Parks and Recreation - Natural Resources (East) Program focuses on maintaining the natural resources within the network of parks located in Portland.
