Intensive English Language Program Teach-In (age 16+) Referral
Volunteers will be helping IELP students who need extra help preparing for their midterm exams. There will be several stations, each staffed by a different volunteer who will tutor students for about 20 minutes each. The tutoring will primarily focus on English grammar, listening/note-taking, and speaking practice. Students will come prepared with materials that they need help on.
Prior to this event, there will be a brief training (from 2:00-2:30pm) to help volunteers understand student needs and expectations in the IELP. This event will help further our program's mission of helping to further the English language acquisition of speakers of other languages and to promote global understanding by bringing together people of different nationalities for communication and learning.
Since 1964, Portland State University (PSU) has offered academic English language instruction to thousands of international students and non-native English speakers. PSU's English language program is the largest university-based, English-as-a-second-language (ESL) program in Oregon. We are also one of the oldest university-based ESL programs in the western United States. The IELP offers academic English language (ESL) courses for students seeking admission to PSU, and other U.S. universities and colleges, as well as for students, adults, and professionals of all levels of ability who are seeking to improve their general English skills for travel, work, or personal enrichment.

Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 18 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.
