Opportunity Details

Parke Diem Weed Warriors at Mt. Tabor Park (age 7+) *Hands On*

What is "Parke Diem"?

Answer: a fun, two-day celebration of parks, volunteering, and the need to support Portland's park legacy.

"Parke Diem" is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit-powered initiative for park-loving people and organizations to unite, achieve, and raise awareness of our park systems' needs. Our goal is to enlist over 30 projects and 1,000 volunteers at dozens of parks throughout the city to create a new, highly visible tradition for the role citizens play in safeguarding and advocating for their park system.

Celebrate Parke Diem at Friends of Mt. Tabor Park as a Weed Warrior! Spend the morning outside at Mt. Tabor, a cinder cone volcano in SE Portland, and help restore the health of this unique park. The Weed Warriors will be removing invasive plants including Himalayan blackberry and English ivy.

You can sign up directly through the Parke Diem site:
http://parklandia.org/parke-diem/mt-tabor-weed-warriors

Wear long sturdy pants such as jeans or carhartts, long sleeves and closed-toe ankle supporting shoes. Bring a water bottle and if you have them work gloves, a trowel, and/or hand clippers. Be prepared to have fun and feel good taking care of our Mt. Tabor Park.

The Friends of Mt Tabor Park works to improve and help maintain Mt Tabor Park for the benefit of individuals, organizations and the Park Bureau; to identify and help solve problems; and to participate in park planning projects. For more information: www.taborfriends.org
