Opportunity Details

Garden Work Party at Gilbert Park Elementary (age 5+) Referral

Gilbert Park Elementary is proud to have three beautiful learning gardens on our campus: a native habitat, a pollinator meadow, and a big beautiful outdoor classroom. The gardens provide a beautiful hands-on space for kids to work, learn and play throughout the school year, and a great resource for members of our community who want to lend a hand and learn a bit themselves.

We will be cleaning up and removing all the dry the summer growth from our native habitat garden. Pruning, weeding, mulching and hauling out debris will be our primary activities in preparing our garden for winter.

All ages, abilities and experience levels are welcome, though you should anticipate physical work outside and be dressed appropriately. Please come with closed-toe shoes, water, and weather-appropriate clothing you don't mind getting dirty. We will have a class-sized selection of adult- and kid-sized tools and gloves, but please bring your own clippers or pruning shears if you have them.

Gilbert Park SUN's mission is aligning community partners and resources to help eliminate the barriers that keep our students from being successful in school and in life. Volunteers participating in this opportunity will impact this mission by cultivating a healthy, thriving natural environment and outdoor classroom space for students to explore and learn outdoors, and demonstrating our community's commitment the values embodied in our school garden.
