DePave the Portland Mercado! (age 10+) Referral

Join the Portland Mercado's transformation by helping us Depave our site from an old concrete used car parking lot into a vibrant plaza! The Portland Mercado is a community economic development initiative of local non-profit Hacienda CDC and will be opening later this year. The project provides affordable retail space for businesses to launch and grow and will be the first Latino public market in Portland.

By volunteering with us, you will help with the removal of unnecessary pavement from our urban space to create a community green space and to help mitigate stormwater runoff. The volunteer work is physical, but mostly about community building. We will provide a light breakfast and lunch, as well as music and an activity for kids younger than 10.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome! Depave will provide all the necessary tools, safety gear, snacks and lunch.

We’ll be starting at 10am and working until about 3:00pm. Volunteers are encouraged to come early – orientation is at 9:45. However, all are welcome to come at any time during the day and stay for as long/short as desired.

Due to the physical nature of asphalt removal, volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and clothing appropriate for tough work.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome! Depave will provide all the necessary tools, safety gear, snacks and lunch.

Closed-toe shoes are required to depave – NO EXCEPTIONS.

Hacienda CDC's mission is to strengthen families by providing affordable housing, homeownership, educational opportunities and economic advancement.

The Portland Mercado's mission is based on Latino cultural heritage to bring together diverse cultures through entertainment, art, and food.

Volunteers will be part of a family event to transform a vacant, abandoned building into a vibrant space for culture, community and commerce; a space that will tie into the overall revitalization efforts happening in the Lents Urban Renewal Area.
