Connect with Alberta at the Alberta Street Fair! (age 15+) Referral

Come one, come all - the 17th Annual Alberta Street Fair returns to celebrate community with a toast to summer on Saturday, August 9th!

The Alberta Street Fair, one of Portland’s most beloved neighborhood street festivals, features a day of eclectic activities celebrating the diversity and uniqueness that is only on Alberta. There are many volunteer opportunities, one perfect for you!

In addition to knowing you are helping put on a great community event, you get a super cool t-shirt, access to the Sysco volunteer lounge, and a drink ticket good in the beer garden (of course, you'll receive a beer ticket only if you're over 21). Additionally, you will be invited to our volunteer appreciation party in September!

Most volunteer shifts are 3 hours long (with some exceptions). All volunteers should check in at the information booth located in front of 1722 NE Alberta Street unless otherwise noted. Click below to express interest and we'll follow up with you!

Volunteers will perform a wide range of activities to help make Alberta Street Fair a smashing success... read on to learn more about the various volunteer roles:

Vendor Check-in - Check in with the Vendor Coordinator to receive detailed instructions about vendor check in and how to address vendor issues. You will confirm vendor space locations, give out vendor permits and answer any questions about set up for a series of 5 blocks. 

Alberta Street Fair Store -  The store is right next door to the volunteer check in. You will be selling merchandise, collecting donations and providing excellent customer service. You will be handling cash and processing credit cards via a square reader. Please ensure that the cash box and iPad are secure at all times. Most shifts at the Store there is someone knowledgeable about Alberta Main Street who should be able to answer most of your questions.

Assistant Stage Manager - Be the go-to person at one of our stages, check in at your stage with the sound tech at the start of your shift. Duties will vary and may include being a 'runner' for the Stage Manager or Sound Technician. 

Beer Garden Set Up - The Beer Garden is located across from the Radio Room at 11th and Alberta. We’ll need help setting-up fencing at perimeter, arranging tables and chairs, tablecloths, table toppers, hang up banners. 

Bike Patrol - Ride the perimeter of the event to replace moved barricades and identify any ‘issues’ that may need attention. Please bring your own bike! Job Description: Floater Do whatever’s needed! 

Green Team - Walk Alberta Street and ensure the permanent garbage/recycling containers aren't overflowing! If they are, please transfer items to the larger containers adjacent to the cans. 

Kids Corner - The Kids corner is located at 18th and Alberta, directly across the street from check-in. Check in with the Kids Corner Coordinator or the volunteer you are replacing about what’s going on. You will assist in all the fun kids activities, passing out info, ensuring safety, and helping performers. 

Volunteer Check-In/Information Booth - Check-in volunteers, which will include: 

• Have volunteers sign a waiver 
• Get them a t-shirt (what we have is what we have if sizes run out) 
• Give them a cheat sheet/map and “job description” 
• Give them their beer ticket • Answer questions from the general public about the day. 

Beer Garden Cashiers - The Beer Garden is located across from the Radio Room at 11th and Alberta. Employ your excellent customer service skills please! Responsible for working the cash register, making change and handing out beer tickets. Please ensure that the cash and iPad are secure at all times. You will also help monitor alcohol and provide support for servers. A cash bank will be provided. Evening volunteers will be checking in here, so you will check them in, have them sign a waiver, give them their t-shirt and beer ticket (if over 21). 

Beer Garden Server - The Beer Garden is located across from the Radio Room at 11th and Alberta. Please let the Beer Garden Coordinator know if you do not have your OLCC servers permit so she can give you a brief training. Responsible for taking beer tickets and pouring beer, alcohol monitoring, general cleanup, help change kegs, etc. ID’s will be checked at the entrance, however if you have any doubts, please re-check! Job Description: Street Fair Closers You will be removing barricade and working on general break down of the event. 

Beer Garden Tear Down - Will help with general tear down, clean up, removing fencing, organizing tables and chairs to be picked up. Job 

Traffic Control Volunteer - Help local resident’s navigate the crowds if they need to leave during the event. Please bring your own bike!

  • Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 18 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.
