Healthy Eating & Living (HEAL) Camp (age 18+) Referral
HEAL is a two week summer program for youth ages 5-15 residing at the Maya Angelou apartments in North Portland. Campers at HEAL will spend the first part engaging in play and eating a healthy lunch, including fresh food from our gardens and healthy grains from Bob’s Red Mill.
After warming up and gathering, with the help of professional dance instructors, they will learn Hip Hop dancing, Breakdancing, Traditional Indian Dance, Belly dancing and more. These dance skills will culminate in a project where they choreograph movement into animation.
They will also be involved in gardening as well, as they tend to our garden beds, with the help of our wonderful gardener. Oregon Children’s Theatre will also be here to present “Smarty Pants,” an interactive game show performance that teaches healthy choices and a field trip to a local farm where they will pick berries that they can use in smoothies.
We are looking for volunteers to assist with preparation, running and clean-up of daily activities. We are looking for people who have a commitment to youth and excited about education and creative ways in keeping kids active.
Ready to join in the fun? Click "express interest" below and someone from HEAL will contact you.
