Lend a Hand at PROPER's Summer Community Festival (age 10+) Referral

Join us for our 23rd annual summer-ain't-over PROPER Neighborhood Festival, a free, family- friendly and all ages welcome event that’s all about getting to know your neighbor. It will be held on Saturday, August 16th at Historic Kenton Park and has averaged 1,000 person turnout, but this year our aim is to quadruple that number!

The free food is the main draw, as community minded people love to serve and everyone loves to eat. Other draws included local quality music and other live entertainment, engaging community speakers, information/resource booths and activities.

For over 20 years, PROPER has created platforms in underrepresented communities for local organizations, builders, and talent, to share their resources for benefit the immediate neighborhood. This is at No-Cost to the public.

Reach out to your community while strengthening your natural talents! We're looking for volunteers for pre, during, post festival positions. Friendly neighborly team-spirit required for all positions!

We're looking for volunteers to help during the following shifts:

Flyering the neighborhood – Help spread the love! Join the distribution team and walk in the community to hand out and post invitations.

BBQ, cook or bake – Experience and food handler’s license required, traditional, vegan & vegetarian, ingredients and professional kitchen provided, meals may be prepared in advance where presence is not required on event day

Food Donations - perishable and non-perishable food-related items, such as chicken, fish, hamburger, hot dogs, whole grain bread, watermelon, oranges, or paper-goods, coupons, and vouchers for other food items.

Event set up – Wear comfortable attire, ability to lift 20 lbs without assistance

Prep food before the event
– Hand/wrist dexterity needed, be a team player, let us know if you have allergies

Serve food at the meal itself - Hand/wrist dexterity necessary (please note, there are limited spots available for actual meal service)

Cleanup - Wear comfortable attire, ability to lift 20 lbs without assistance

Spanish translator - ¿Hablas español? (flyer translation, friend maker)

Administrative/office - before and after the event, help with phone/direct communications, data entry, other administrative event support.

People Reaching Other People Expecting Restoration (PROPER) seeks to improve communities through pro-active communication and greater awareness by generating open dialogues and lasting relationships between local businesses, organizations, churches and individual people. 


Opportunity Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 10 years of age or older to participate in this opportunity; any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.
