Community Cycling Event - PDX Summer Handcycling Series (age 11+) Referral

The PDX Summer Handcycling Series is a 12-week series that takes place each Tuesday at Portland International Raceway. The series was developed to provide an outlet for adaptive cycling within the greater Portland cycling community. It is open to the public and free to attend.

Partner organizations provide 24 handcycles for participants to ride and volunteers are needed for set-up/break-down of weekly events. This includes unloading/loading two trailers full of handcycles, basic bike assembly, and helping participants who need assistance transferring between bikes and wheelchairs. Training on proper lifting techniques can be provided.

Volunteers are also needed to help facilitate registration and record lap times. Photographers are always welcome and we would love to share photos from the event on our social media website.

Volunteers are welcome to bring their own bicycles to take turns riding laps around the track at PIR to check in with participants and provide water or assistance when needed. Anyone with a working knowledge of bike mechanics who can help with basic bike maintenance is always appreciated.

The event takes place outside and requires volunteers to be on their feet most of the time, so please dress comfortably.

The mission of Incight is: "Unlocking the potential of people with disabilities." For this series, we partner with Oregon Disability Sports whose mission is: "To provide and promote recreational, fitness and competitive opportunities for people with physical disabilities." Together, both organizations serve the disability community in the greater Portland area. The PDX Summer Handcycling Series is a great opportunity for volunteers to engage with this community and help increase access and awareness for adaptive cycling opportunities. This series fosters a welcoming spirit to promote social and physical wellness and inclusion through the sport of handcycling.
