Nature Conservation and Farm Tour with Internationals (age 18+) Referral

We are hoping to have locals join us to help preserve this unique piece of land while conversing with our students. If you can only join for a part of the day, that is fine. We are happy to have you there to show our students how locals enjoy preserving the environment and to chat with them.

Please bring any gardening tools such as loppers and shovels and gloves to support the event. You can use them yourself or write your name on them with tape and have them returned to you at Noon.

This opportunity encourages inter-cultural mingling and helps students to practice their English speaking skills. They also feel a deeper connection to the culture they are living in when they meet more locals.

From 10am - 12pm, our international ESL college students will volunteer with Neighbors for a Livable West Linn on some nature conservation activities at the White Oak Savannah.

At 12pm, we will drive to FIALA Farm (family owned for over 100 years) and have a lunch picnic together. Bring your own lunch please, only drinks and fruit are for sale on site. Feel free to tell them about why you choose to support local farms or local conservation efforts while we are there.

After lunch, around 1pm, we will take a tour of 56-acre farm, and enjoy the corn maze (if tall enough), and maybe fruit picking of peach, pear and apple trees if the fruit is ripe enough.

At 2:30pm, we will depart back to our school.

If you prefer to meet with us on Marylhurst campus earlier in the morning and take the bus with our students, that may be possible to arrange ahead of time IF you communicate this interest ahead. You may be requested to sign a liability waiver.

Come on over to support world consciousness for environmental efforts and help students to see that locals take part in these environmental programs.
