Opportunity Details

Canine Agility Ring Crew! (age 11+) Referral

You've seen them on Animal Planet – those amazing agility dogs flying through the obstacle course beside their handlers. Here's your chance to see them up close and personal!

The Portland Agility Club (PAC) will donate money to Animal Aid's Fund for Urgent Veterinary Care for each 5-man agility ring crew that we can provide for their 3-day, 2-ring Agility Trial. Can there be a more fascinating way to earn money for a good cause?  This is a great way to satisfy community service requirements -- you can earn 4 to 24+ hours in a single weekend.

WHAT DO WE DO? Ring crews are seated inside each of the 100’ by 100’ agility rings during the competition. They are responsible for adjusting the equipment as needed, moving quickly and unobtrusively. FOR A FULL DESCRIPTION of both a trial and our typical responsibilities CLICK HERE.

LOCATION: Inside the horse arena at the Clark County Fairground in Ridgefield Washington, roughly where I-205 rejoins I-5 north of Vancouver.

DAYS OF THE TRIAL: Friday, September 19
                              Saturday, September 20
                              Sunday, September 21

SHIFT CHOICES SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: (you are welcome to work as many as you like!)

  • 7:30am - Noon  (Friday may start later)

  • 11:30 - end-of-day ("end-of-day" may be anywhere from 3:00pm to 5:30pm)

New workers must sign in 1/2 hour early for training. Newbies are encouraged to sign up for a morning shift their first time out -- there is more time for training, and you know exactly when you get to leave.

AGE LIMIT: Workers under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. This pair =  one "super worker"!

HOW DO I SIGN UP? This is done in three steps:

(1) Read the Ring Crew Training Packet  -- this is REQUIRED of all workers before they come out! It contains maps that will help you find us. It will also help you decide if this is what you really want to do.

(2) Complete an ANIMAL AID (not Hands On Portland) volunteer application. Go to  https://www.animalaidpdx.org/helping/newVolunteer.php to open a separate window where you can do right it now!
Note 1: If you have ever worked as a volunteer for Animal Aid before, we should have your application on file and you can skip this step.
Note 2: For fastest processing, be sure and mark ‘Yes” when asked:  At this time, are you applying ONLY for a Special Projects Team (e.g. an agility ring crew)?

(3) Sign up for your chosen shift(s) at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0e4ea5aa29aa8-september

What are we working for? In exchange for our crew's work the hosts donate money to the Animal Aid Fund for Urgent Veterinary Care. Every single dollar will go directly to work helping community members deal with urgent veterinary expenses. The hard work of our volunteers will impact many small lives!
