Get Out and Garden at Sewallcrest Park! (age 10+) *Referral*

Join your community members and fellow plant enthusiasts for a few hours of playing in the dirt as we provide a little loving care to one of the 50 gardens run by Portland Community Gardens during Parke Diem 2014!

Get some exercise out in the fresh air, learn a new plant fact or two and enjoy a well-earned sense of accomplishment as we work together as a group to spruce up Sewallcrest Community Garden, one of the three original sites that the Portland Community Garden Program organized around in 1975. It is part of the Sewallcrest Neighbrohood Park, located a block south of the busy Hawthorne business district.

Possible tasks include cleaning up paths, weeding, mulching, removing invasive species, pruning, building beds, planting and more. (Green thumbs encouraged but not required.)

You can sign up directly through the Parke Diem site:
http://www.parklandia.org/parkediem/sewallcrestcomgard

Dress for the weather, bring garden/work gloves if you have them, and wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. It is also a good idea to bring a snack to keep you nourished, as well as a full water bottle (not all gardens have drinking water readily available on site).

The City of Portland Community Garden program has provided gardening opportunities for the physical and social benefit of the people and neighborhoods of Portland since 1975. There are 50 community gardens located throughout the city, developed and operated by volunteers and Portland Parks and Recreation staff.
