Crew Lead a garden build in Portland! (age 18+) Referral

GROWING GARDENS is recruiting Crew Leaders to help organize, motivate, and lead crews of 5-10 community volunteers on garden building days. Crew Leaders play an essential role in creating a safe, fun, and productive atmosphere as we build gardens and improve fresh food access for our local community. 

Join us for our Crew Leader Training on Saturday, October 3rd. Our Crew Leaders will receive free organic garden installation training, group facilitation resoruces, support from GROWING GARDENS staff. No prior leadership experience required, we will support you build these skills! Join us and gain valuable experience in team management, leadership, and garden building techniques!

Growing Gardens Crew Builders

CREW LEADER RESPONSBILITES: 

  • Attend our Crew Leader Training, Saturday, October 3rd 10am-3pm. FREE building & group facilitation training! 

  • Commit to leading two Garden Installation Days! Choose two dates: 9/10, 9/17, 9/31 10AM- 4PM

  • Organize crew members into an efficient soil digging machine :)

  • Help crew members understand individual roles and plan for the day

  • Help problem-solve unanticipated problems in materials, implementation, etc.

  • Communicate with garden recipient and Growing Gardens staff

  • Keep track of tools

  • Ensure that crew members are being safe and having FUN!

  • Facilitate any games and/or reflection activities deemed appropriate for the day.

  • Have FUN!

What to Bring

  • Wear comfortable and shoes you do not mind getting dirty.

  • Work gloves (optional). Growing Gardens has work gloves, but if you have a favorite pair at home, please bring them with you.

  • Water bottle.

  • Lunch or lunch money

  • Snacks

  • A smile and your strong muscles!

About Us: GROWING GARDENS is a non-profit that digs at the root of hunger in Portland, Oregon. We plant seeds for good food and healthy people by making sure low income people have the resources they need to grow organic vegetables in their backyards and schoolyards.

Our Home Gardens program supports low income households for three years with seeds, plants, classes, mentors and more.
