Opportunity Details

New to PDX Volunteer Night at the ReBuilding Center (age 14+) *Hands On*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Join up with like-minded individuals and build that friend base here in your new city! Local volunteers are a vibrant and wonderful part of the Rose City. Meet some new folks and help keep usable materials out of the waste stream. We meet up on the second Friday of every month.

Alongside other new-to-towners, dig into a variety of hands-on tasks at the ReBuilding Center. Founded by volunteers in 1998, The ReBuilding Center carries the region’s largest volume of used building and remodeling materials. It provides resources that make home repairs affordable to everyone, with the goal of promoting the reuse of salvaged and reclaimed materials. From sorting donated materials to pulling nails, measuring doors, and organizing handy odds-and-ends, come be a part of the fun!

Closed toe shoes required. Bring a water bottle and work gloves if you have them. Please dress for the weather, as our building is not climate controlled and can get cold. Some tasks may involve medium to heavy lifting. Enter through the big brown community trees (you'll know them when you see them). Please arrive on time as the ReBuilding Center closes to the public at 6pm and the doors will close.

After the work party, those who are interested are welcome to join the crew at a local happy hour nearby (for those age 21+) to continue the fun times and get to know your fellow volunteers!

Our United Villages inspires people to value and discover existing resources to strengthen the social and environmental vitality of communities. Our United Villages is home to The ReBuilding Center, Community Legacy Program, Deconstruction Services, and ReFind Education.

Project Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older to attend this project.

  • If you plan to bring your children or other guests to the event, you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team. You can then sign up your team for this project. PLEASE NOTE: If you do reserve slots for multiple team members, it is imperative that each person signed up shows up. Spaces are limited and groups who don't show up can drastically reduce the amount of work each shift can accomplish.

  • All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project: Youth Volunteer Release Form
