Help save lives by installing free smoke alarms and educating households (ages 18+)
In Oregon and SW Washington, the Red Cross responds to an average of two home fires per day. Please consider volunteering to ensure that our community is educated and prepared in the case of a fire and other disasters. The American Red Cross began the Home Fire Campaign in 2014 with the goal of reducing injuries and fatalities from home fires by 25%, by offering free smoke alarms and disaster prevention education. To accomplish this goal, volunteers will be trained in the morning of the event to fill one of three roles on a Home Fire Campaign team, no previous experience required: Installer - Uses power drill and step ladder to install smoke alarms in designated areas. Educator - Covers a checklist of fire safety and disaster preparedness topics with household. Documenter - Tracks information of number of alarms installed, people reached for Red Cross and State Fire Marshall. Training and lunch will be provided for all participants.
