Celebrate Food Day! Grow Vegetables for Hunger Relief (age 12+) *Hands On*

The goal of Food Day is to “build a broad ‘real food’ movement of Americans who want healthy, affordable and delicious food produced in a sustainable and humane way.”

A growing number of people and organizations nationwide are organizing activities in their workplaces, schools and communities to celebrate Food Day this October 24th.

How can you help celebrate Food Day? Volunteer with County CROPS alongside Multnomah County Chair Jeff Cogan!

County CROPS is an emergency food garden grown on underutilized Multnomah County surplus property that is being farmed to grow fresh, local, organically grown produce for hungry Oregon families. Our produce will be distributed through hunger relief organizations like the Oregon Food Bank network and SnowCap to provide hunger relief to our local community during the current economic crisis.

Volunteers will help by: planting, weeding, harvesting and more (depending on the season). Be sure to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty!

Join us for a day of good ol’ fashioned, get your hands dirty garden work all for the benefit of feeding our community!

C.R.O.P.S. (Community Reaps Our Produce and Shares) is a Multnomah County initiative. What used to be a vacant county owned lot in Troutdale is now a community farm in which all the harvests are donated to the Oregon Food Bank. The project is now in its second season and thriving with successful harvests, lots of volunteers, and numerous benefits for the community. Not only does it help people in need, but it reduces carbon emissions, gives people an opportunity to eat healthier, and strengthens the local economy.
