Read and discuss Where I Slept by Transition Projects, Inc. In 2007, Portland residents of Transition Projects shelters were asked to photograph the places they slept while living on the streets. With disposable cameras and a willingness to show us their truth, they created a discomforting book that serves as a stark reminder that we can do better. This
Books-to-Action begins with a discussion of the book followed by a
community service opportunity that inspires our sense of service and
contribution. Check back in mid-January for a description of the service
project. Meanwhile, if you have any questions about this, please email
Karen@handsonportland.org. Limited copies of the book are available. If
you need to borrow a copy, please email Karen@handsonportland.org. Love
volunteering? Got a passion for reading? Join Hands On as it brings the
two together through Books-to-Action, which aims to deepen volunteer
understanding about relevant social issues in our community through
common reading, discussion and service. This Books-to-Action is
co-sponsored by our Hands on Boomer Initiative and Multnomah County
Library, partners in Life by Design NW. Boomers are encouraged to
participate and we welcome an intergenerational mix of participants. |
