Answer Prisoner Mail with the Partnership for Safety and Justice

Agency: Partnership For Safety and Justice

Description:

The United States is the number-one jailer in the world. There are more than 2 million people in prison in this country. At Partnership for Safety and Justice, we believe these people deserve a voice.

If you have a couple of hours this week, please help us answer prisoner mail from prisoners in Oregon and across the country. For ten years, Partnership for Safety and Justice has been receiving mail from prisoners, and we answer each letter, providing resources and information about laws, policies and civil rights. You can help prisoners advocate for themselves and be more successful when they are released.

Answering mail is easy and very rewarding. Oftentimes, letters from our volunteers are the only mail that prisoners receive. Our volunteers help connect prisoners to the outside world.

Volunteers 16 and older are best suited for this project. The only skill necessary is an interest in the prison and criminal justice system.

PLUS, pizza is always provided for our valued volunteers.

A little about us: Partnership for Safety and Justice believes we can create safer communities without sacrificing justice. We’re a statewide advocacy organization that organizes all people affected by crime and violence—survivors of crime, people convicted of crime, and the families of both—to create policies that make the public safety system more just.

You must be 16 or older to attend this project. All volunteers under 18 years of age must bring a signed youth waiver.
