Grow a New Garden with Portland Community Gardens! (age 10+) *Hands On*
Help the City of Portland Community Garden Initiative meet the demands for more gardening plots. See how a brand new garden comes to life as we help Portland Community Gardens get one of their new sites ready for its first "crop" of new gardeners. We'll be building beds, laying paths, spreading mulch, building sheds, removing invasives, and more. And when you're done you and your fellow volunteers will have the satisfaction of knowing you've been a part of creating something that will be providing healthy food and building community for years to come.
Please dress for the weather, bring garden/work gloves if you have them, and wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. It is also a good idea to bring a snack to keep you nourished, as well as a full water bottle (not all gardens have drinking water readily available on site).
The City of Portland Community Garden program has provided gardening opportunities for the physical and social benefit of the people and neighborhoods of Portland since 1975. There are over 50 community gardens located throughout the city, developed and operated by volunteers and Portland Parks and Recreation staff.
