Love Kids & Books? Coordinate SMART in East County (age 18+) Referral
Support children's literacy in your community and inspire a love of books and reading. Work with elementary school staff to schedule students and volunteers and to provide program oversight during reading sessions. Lead a team of committed volunteers and make a significant contribution to your local school. The SMART Site Coordinator is essential to ensuring that a SMART program is able to open at a school.
SMART is a book and reading program that engages community volunteers to help PreK-third grade children become confident readers by providing one-on-one read aloud time, valuable adult mentorship, and books to take home and keep Programs run during school hours Monday - Friday. Time commitment is 2 – 10 hours per week, depending on elementary school assignment and your availability.
Programs run from September through mid-May. Opportunities available include running a program two days a week (4 - 8 hours per week), or working with another volunteers to co-coordinate a program (hours per week determined by the team).
Volunteers will work in elementary schools and become familiar with local education, including children's literacy rates. They will also learn volunteer management skills and be exposed to the latest in children's literature.

Portland Mt Hood Community College Head Start, 26000 SE Stark Street, Gresham Margaret Scott Elementary, 14700 NE Sacramento Street
