Love kids & books? Be a SMART Reading Site Coordinator! (age 18+) Referral

Support children’s literacy in your community and inspire a love of books and reading.  Work with elementary school staff to schedule students and volunteers and to provide program oversight during reading sessions.  Lead a team of committed volunteers and make a significant contribution to your local school.

SMART Reading is a book and reading program that builds literacy skills in PreK-third grade students by pairing them with community volunteers.

The Metro SMART Reading program has volunteer site coordinator/team member opportunities throughout Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties.  Programs run during school hours and the number of volunteer hours is dependent upon elementary school assignment and your availability.  Programs run from September through mid-May.

Opportunities available include:  volunteer to run a SMART program two days for 4 to 8 hours a week; coordinator with one other volunteer; one day for 2 to 4 hours a week; or volunteer as part of a small team of coordinators (hours per week determined by the team).
