ARCHIVE Love Kids & Books? Coordinate SMART in East Portland! (age 18+) Referral

SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is currently recruiting Site Coordinators for our programs in outer East Portland. As a SMART Site Coordinator, you will lead a team of committed volunteers and make a significant contribution to your local school. Responsibilities include providing program oversight during reading sessions, acting as a key point of contact at our schools, and creating a welcoming, organized-environment for our volunteer Readers and students.  This leadership volunteer position is an indispensable piece for creating a successful SMART program.

Site Coordinators are needed at these schools:

  • Earl Boyles Elementary: 10822 SE Bush Street

  • Margaret Scott Elementary: 14700 NE Sacramento Street

  • Menlo Park Elementary: 12900 NE Glisan Street

  • Powell Butte Elementary: 3615 SE 174th Avenue

  • Prescott Elementary: 10410 NE Prescott Street

Programs run during school hours Monday - Friday. Time commitment is 2 - 8 hours per week, depending on elementary school assignment and your availability. Many of our programs share the Site Coordinator role with a small team of volunteers.  Programs run from mid-September through mid-May.

SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is an early literacy nonprofit that envisions an Oregon in which every child can read and is empowered to succeed. We engage community volunteers to help PreK-3rd grade children become confident readers by providing one-on-one literacy support, valuable adult mentorship, and books to keep.

The SMART Site Coordinator is essential to ensuring that a SMART program is able to open at a school.
