Love Kids & Books? Coordinate SMART in East Portland! (age 18+) Referral
Support children's literacy in your community and inspire a love of books and reading. Work with elementary school staff to schedule students and volunteers and to provide program oversight during reading sessions. Lead a team of committed volunteers and make a significant contribution to your local school.
Site Coordinators are urgently needed at these schools:
Earl Boyles Elementary: 10822 SE Bush Street
Gilbert Heights Elementary: 12839 SE Holgate Blvd
Patrick Lynch Elementary: 1546 SE 169th Place
Margaret Scott Elementary: 14700 NE Sacramento Street
Programs run during school hours Monday - Friday. Time commitment is 2 – 8 hours per week, depending on elementary school assignment and your availability. Programs run from October 2017 through mid-May 2018.
SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is an early literacy nonprofit that envisions an Oregon in which every child can read and is empowered to succeed. We engage community volunteers to help PreK-3rd grade children become confident readers by providing one-on-one literacy support, valuable adult mentorship, and books to take home and keep. The SMART Site Coordinator is essential to ensuring that a SMART program is able to open at a school.
