Get Artsy with Multicultural Kids @ McCoy Village (age 16+) *Hands On*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Wake up your inner artist and join us for an evening of fun! We put together an arts activity night for about 10-20 of our kids. By engaging youth in positive activities at a young age, we hope to connect them with each other, increase high school graduation rates, and offer creative outlets. Since this isn't a formal art class, we need flexible go-with-the-flow volunteers to come and add creativity and assistance to the class. McCoy Village is an affordable housing community, located in NE Portland. Our art workshops are enjoyed by children in the K-5 age range. This site has 150 residents with an estimated demographic of 70% Black residents. This experience would not happen without volunteer help and provides an artistic and community building outlet for our children whenever possible.

If you happen to have an overload of art supplies at home that you'd like to donate, feel free to bring them with you!

We may work on individual and collective art projects like drawing, cut outs, collages, or whatever we might have in our supply closet - our art activities are volunteer led and are not structured. Our youth are looking forward to this hands on experience and attend our activities to feel valued and welcomed in this community. Previous experience working with kids and/or art is helpful but not necessary! Please know that you will be working with a high energy group of kids coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. Patience, flexibility, and fun are important ingredients to bring with you when you volunteer! Remember that although we're bringing the kids together for the art project, it's really an opportunity to make a positive connection with the kids, regardless of the activity!
