Support the Arts: Columbia Symphony Orchestra (age 16+) *Hands On*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra is a not-for-profit service organization dedicated to presenting quality performances of standard, worthy but rarely performed, and new orchestral repertoire. The orchestra features regional composers, soloists, and musicians both professional and semi-professional. Portland Columbia Symphony Orchestra brings together musicians and audiences in friendly, affordable, and accessible concert experiences.

Friendly and energetic volunteers are needed as front house volunteers (helping patrons with programs, tickets, and concessions) and at intermission. Each volunteer will receive 2 free concert tickets to a future performance. Dress Code is black pants or skirt and a white shirt.

Upcoming 2019-2020 Season Concerts:

  • September 13 & 15, 2019 — Brahm's First Symphony - Robert Henry, piano: Full of sublime melodies, glorious harmonies and an impassioned urgency that would become his orchestral trademark, Brahms' First Symphony was so monumental it's sometimes referred to "Beethoven's Tenth." Discovered in an abandoned Chicago home in 2009, Florence Price's once-lost Second Violin Concerto stands among the best American violin concertos

  • November 22 & 24, 2019 — Scheherezade and Other Epic Odysseys -
Three epic odysseys, one epic program! Rimsky-Korsakov's fantastical Scheherezade brings Arabian Nights to life with dazzling effects and brilliant displays of virtuosity from around the orchestra. The ride begins with Portland-based composer - and PCSO member - Nicole Buetti, whose fun and energetic music gives even the most thrilling film scores a run for their money.

  • March 13 & 15, 2020 — A Concert for Hope
Join us in the fight against cancer, as world-renowned trumpeter and survivor Ryan Anthony, representing his CancerBlows foundation, performs Jim Stephenson's Concerto for Hope, written especially for him. The piece is bookended by Vivaldi's sparkling Concerto for Two Trumpets and Dvořák's infectiously optimistic Eighth Symphony.

  • May 1st & 3rd , 2019 — Beethoven and Tchaikovsky
PCSO closes its 37th season with a program of Slavic symphonic showpieces! The entire orchestra is showcased in some of the most celebrated and exciting orchestral works ever written by Slavic composers, including the exotic Suite from the opera Háry János by Zoltán Kodály. You won’t want to miss the artistry of our virtuoso orchestra!

The CSO's mission is to provide high quality classical music to the community through affordable tickets and community outreach. For more information, visit: www.columbiasymphony.org
