Opportunity Details

Saturday Hospitality at Operation Nightwatch SE Center (age 18+) *Hands On*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

*Operation Nightwatch SE Center is currently offering limited service to our guests. Volunteer help is needed to prepare and distribute sandwiches. The project will take place outside to limit contact and grouping. We are also asking all volunteers who are exhibiting any COVID symptoms to stay home, and that volunteers over 60 or with preexisting health conditions to also consider staying home.*

Enjoy handing out snacks or helping give out blankets and socks? Perhaps you like conversing, or listening to fascinating life stories?

Our SE Hospitality Center offers our guests a safe, warm place to go and know they can find a welcoming, respectful environment. Our simple mission is to reach out to them, nurturing relationship. We welcome each person who comes to us, just as they are. Operation Nightwatch is an drop-in center and a place of friendship and community for those living without housing in SE Portland. The Nightwatch SE Hospitality Center is open to guests on Saturdays from 5 pm - 8 pm, and Fridays from 7 - 9 pm.

Volunteers play an important role in providing assistance, openness, and social companionship to those who come through our doors each Saturday evening.

Upon your arrival at 4:00 pm we will provide an orientation so you'll know how the evening will proceed. This orientation provides important information about safety, and helping with the set up, so please arrive on time!

Also, please dress in comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate attire, as we might have you outside for a small portion of the evening. Volunteers are asked to be present from 4:00-8:30 pm.

While other agencies main focus is to provide housing, food, and clothing, Operation Nightwatch’s unique vision is to address people's social isolation. We welcome each person who comes to us, just as they are. No one is required to conform to any particular belief or faith practice in order to receive our services.
