Recycled Art w/Youth! (Age 18+) *Hands On*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Wake up your inner artist and join us Monday morning or Wednesday afternoons! We’ve partnered with RIHO at Rosewood and Trash for Peace to provide about 20 kids with a fun recycling art activity. You will volunteer alongside an Art Recycle Leader who will need help engaging youth with a collective art projects like drawing, cut outs, collages etc. Since this isn't a formal art class- we need flexible, and go-with-the-flow volunteers to come and add your creativity and assistance to the class. Know youth for this project range from preschool to elementary. Building community is an important part of RIHO, so while we welcome all volunteers, we prefer those who may be interested in volunteering with us a regular basis.

Why:

Kids in this program have parents taking English classes in the next room. In order for our parents to focus on their studies we’re offering their kids a safe space to engage in sustainable reuse and recycle art projects. This is great for our parents who are looking for enriching and safe experiences for their kids while also learning English in Portland.

Who:

You will have a great time exploring art with kids from Somalia, Afghanistan, Burma, Iraq, and more. Remember that although we're bringing the kids together for the art project, it's really an opportunity to make a positive connection with the kids, regardless of the activity! Patience, flexibility, and fun are important to bring with you for this project!

  • RIHO at Rosewood facilitates social connections and access to services for refugees and immigrants. We bring American volunteers and newcomers together through social and educational activities with a goal of making friends and building community, and partner with different organizations to assist the adjustment to a new life here.
