Healthcare Professionals Needed For Disaster Leadership Role (age 18+) Referral

The American Red Cross Cascades Region is seeking an experienced medical professional to support the Disaster Health Services Team in a Regional Lead position. This role will support a team of medical professionals, both active and retired, located within Oregon and Southwest Washington. The function of the Disaster Health Services team is to support Red Cross clients of small and large scale disasters, providing connections to financial and community health resources to help them on their path to recovery.

The Disaster Health Services Lead will provide guidance on the engagement and training of a robust team of health professionals, in order to build disaster response capacity. As a Lead, this position will support local Chapter Coordinators who each manage and support a team in their geographic area. The Regional Disaster Health Services Lead reports to and is supported by the Direct Services Support Manager and the Divisional Disaster Health Services Advisor.

The Disaster Health Services Lead will additionally be responsible for quality assurance of program implementation, with an option to deploy nationally. Training and mentoring will be provided, but self-motivation is needed to complete online courses and manage responsibilities on a flexible schedule. There are required meetings, and the technological skill to arrange and attend meetings remotely is highly desired.

The right candidate for this role will be a dynamic leader with the ability to engage and motivate volunteers and collaborate with community partners. Previous disaster response experience is not required, but the candidate should have a desire to become a subject matter expert in disaster related health concerns.

The mission of the Red Cross is to alleviate human suffering by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The Disaster Health Services Lead is the catalyst in the mobilization of our Health Services volunteer team, who are responsible for helping meet identifiable health-related needs that arise from experiencing a disaster. Our Health Services team assists Red Cross clients by connecting them with financial assistance, as well as connections to community health resources to support them on their path to recovery.

The Disaster Health Services lead will have the opportunity to utilize and grow their leadership skills and healthcare industry knowledge, while directly helping grow the capacity of Red Cross Health Services workforce. Volunteers will gain an in-depth understanding of Red Cross functions in a disaster, disaster partnerships, and disaster response doctrine. Depending on volunteer interest and availability, there will be opportunities to deploy to large scale disasters to support response and recovery activities in a leadership role.
