Help Make our Website Visible, Inclusive and Fun! (age 18+) Referral

CARES Northwest’s mission is to stop child abuse and neglect through multidisciplinary prevention, medical evaluation, and ongoing treatment in partnership with our community. Volunteers are an integral aspect of our program. Our traditional volunteer positions offer assistance and guidance to children, youth and families during a very difficult time. Volunteers are often praised for their support in the waiting room and engaging with children before and after a child abuse evaluation. This volunteer position will help us change how children and their families prepare for an evaluation by assisting us in making our website more user friendly and inviting.

We are seeking a few volunteers who have a heart for children and:

  • Have experience with website design and can facilitate redesigning our website to be user friendly, inclusive and fun

  • Have an understanding of children and families under stress or are willing to learn

  • Are seasoned in laying out a use-friendly website that addressed the varied needs of our community

  • Are willing to train staff on how to manage our website and make changes

  • Have skills in communication, discretion, and compassion

  • Have the ability to listen and communicate well and unbiased

  • Are talkative, relaxed and friendly disposition

  • Bilingual ability appreciated and helpful

  • Willingness and ability to attend trainings by CARES Northwest staff • Willingness and ability to register with Legacy Health Volunteer Services, including a criminal background check.

  • Willingness to complete an Authorization and Notice of Abuse History form, to be submitted to Oregon Department of Human Services Background Check Unit.

We are considered a first responder agency that has remained open during COVID-19 restrictions with many PPE policies in place. Anyone who enters our building, must go to a COVID-19 screening station and get a temperature check before they can enter the clinic. All staff, volunteers, community partners, families and children are required to wear a mask. Staff and volunteers are also required to wear provided safety googles in addition to a mask. Our clinic is open M-F from 9 - 5 pm and work for this project will be completed within that time frame. Volunteers may have the opportunity to work on this project remotely after being onboarded and learning the essence of our program.

Volunteers will gain experience and knowledge working with children, youth and families who have experienced trauma. They will learn new skills and best practices in supporting children who are being evaluated for abuse and/or neglect. Additionally, volunteers will observe the multi-disciplinary approach to child abuse assessment where many players are involved, including forensic interviewers, medical practitioners, law enforcement and DHS.
