Help Children K-3 Learn to Read - Be an AARP Experience Corps Mentor (age 50+)
Young children need your help to succeed in school!
Do you believe all children should be able to read?
Would you like to be the special person that makes this possible?
AARP Experience Corps is a special intergenerational program which matches volunteers age 50+ to young children in our schools who need that special connection to thrive in school.
Volunteers serve 4-6 hours per week, either during school or in after-school programs. Some stipends may be available for those able to serve 8-10 hours.
As an AARP Experience Corps Mentor Volunteer you will:
work one-on-one or in small groups with children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade
help children with reading, and other tutoring
receive interesting and informative training
be able to participate in fun and educational opportunities throughout the school year
be part of a team of caring adults who share your interest in helping children
No experience is needed - just a love for children and the desire to make a difference! Full training is provided before beginning, as well as throughout the school year.
Be that special person that cares enough to take time to truly listen to these young people, giving them the boost they need to succeed. Our volunteer mentors make a huge difference in the lives of children!
All volunteers must be able to commit to volunteering throughout the school year (with some possible breaks), submit an application and be able to pass a criminal background check.
