Opportunity Details

Tree Planting & Restoration Party in Vancouver (age 0+) *MLK 2015*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Join us in honoring the legacy of Dr. King through meaningful service to our community: "Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve."
-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Winter is the time for planting! So, bring your work gloves and dress warmly as we prepare the Earth for new plantings and springtime growth. We will be planting native trees and shrubs along the riparian corridor of Burnt Bridge Creek. Mulch will be staged as well for spreading out on the planting area if time allows.

We all live in a watershed! Watersheds are regions or areas defined by ridges where the water drains into a particular stream, lake or river. In Vancouver, Washington, our community has bountiful water bodies, including Burnt Bridge Creek and the Columbia River.

Burnt Bridge Creek is a highly modified urban stream that flows some 12.6 miles from its agricultural origins near Northeast 162nd Avenue on the east, through the heart of Vancouver and the Greenway Project at its center, to its terminus at Vancouver Lake.

The Vancouver Watersheds Alliance is a small, community-focused, non-regulatory, non-profit organization established to educate and engage the community in order to improve the health of Vancouver's watersheds. Together we work to identify issues, promote cooperative solutions, focus resources, agree on goals for watershed protection and foster communication among our diverse stakeholders.

Community partners that make this project possible: United Way/Hands On Greater Portland, Fort Vancouver High School and the City of Vancouver.
