Opportunity Details

Spruce Up Laurelhurst Park (age 15+) *Hands On*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Friends of Laurelhurst Park Work Parties will be held April through October, welcoming volunteers to come once or ongoing. We need help with a variety of hands-on work including pruning shrubs, weeding out invasives, planting new shrubs and perennials, and spreading mulch. With so many beautiful and established plantings, this park takes many helpers to keep it looking lovely.
Our staff at Portland Parks & Recreation provide project support and guidance and are fun to work with. Highlights of our gatherings include meeting volunteers from around the city as well as working alongside new and longtime neighborhood residents. We welcome new faces to our ever-evolving group; come join in to support this popular place.

Laurelhurst Park is Portland's only designated historical park and has an unusual array of horticultural plants and tree species. The pond and all the plants make this a special gathering spot, but also requires extra care to keep it up.

Come join in... there’s always something that needs volunteer TLC! Due to community health concerns, we highly recommend that volunteers bring their own sturdy work gloves. Also, please wear sturdy shoes (work boots/sneakers), and bring a water bottle.  Dress for the weather, as we work outside.

Project Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older to attend this project; any volunteer under age 18 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.

  • If you plan to bring your children or other guests to the event, you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team. You can then sign up your team for this project.

  • All volunteers under 18 are required to bring two waivers signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring these waivers with you on the day of the project: Youth Volunteer Release Form and Portland Parks and Recreation Waiver
