Become a JoyRx Hallway Musician! (age 18+) Referral

For a child who is going through a life-threatening illness, you can make a difference by lifting their spirits through the power of music.

JoyRx Music draws on the universal power of music to energize and lift spirits. Our music program helps children find joy during the stressful and painful experiences related to extended hospitalizations and treatments for life-threatening illnesses.

Our Volunteer Hallway Musicians are a critical piece of this program, filling the hospital lobbies and hallways with music. This truly transforms the hospital environment for children, families, and staff from the moment they enter the building.

Our musicians come to their preferred hospital, Randall or Doernbecher Children's Hospital, with their instrument ready to play a two hour set of music. The intention is to create a welcoming environment for anyone in the hospital space and to mitigate the stress brought on by hospital stays or treatments.

Our volunteers get experience in the pediatric healthcare setting, learn about trauma informed care, and are part of making a difference in the lives of seriously ill children and their families, while practicing their musical skills.

Our Mission:

We are JoyRx, an organization dedicated to children’s emotional wellness. Since 1995, we have led the way in treating the mental well-being of kids facing significant medical journeys. Our dedicated team provides moments of joy to seriously ill children through the JoyRx Music program, where every interaction is an invitation for children to explore, engage, and play. Because when sick kids feel like kids again, their moods brighten. Anxiety and loneliness fade. Feelings of pain decrease. And the power of joy shines through -- one song, one drumbeat, one child at a time.
