River View Natural Area Restoration Event (age 10+) *Hands On*
About the Program
The Westside Watershed Resource Center inspires action and awareness on behalf of watershed health. By participating in this restoration event, volunteers will directly support this mission through hands-on service that improves the health of the Willamette River watershed, while learning how English ivy and other introduced species impact native ecosystems and watershed health.
About the Project
Join Portland Parks & Recreation and the Westside Watershed Resource Center for a morning of English ivy removal at River View Natural Area.
We will be removing English ivy near the trail head area. Volunteers will be working off trail on uneven ground. This protected Portland Parks & Recreation natural area features diverse habitats of mixed coniferous forests and riparian zones and delivers cool water from seven streams into the Willamette at spots that salmon and steelhead like to hangout. This volunteer event is a great way to connect with nature, help native plant species thrive, and improve the habitat of this unique urban natural area. Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, and bring your own water bottle. Tools, gloves, instruction, and refreshments will be provided!
Children 10+ are welcome, if accompanied by an attentive adult. Youth 16+ may attend independently with parent permission.
Accessibility: This event will require bending over and walking on uneven surfaces.
