Pack & Organize to Support Families With Pediatric Cancer (age 16+) *Impact Week

Volunteer Opportunity

Help bring hope and practical support to families facing pediatric cancer by assembling welcome “Home to Hospital” bags and reorganizing Candlelighters' office to enable us to more effectively serve children and families across the region.

About the Program

For nearly 50 years, Candlelighters has been Here for Hope for families in Oregon and SW Washington battling pediatric cancer. The organization was founded by five families who met in the halls of Doernbecher Children’s hospital bonded by the trauma of a childhood cancer diagnosis and intent on helping other families confronting pediatric cancer.

Fast forward to today, over 100,000 family members in Oregon and SW Washington have been helped through our wide range of programs. We currently offer support through our in-hospital programs, financial assistance and activities and events. We have active chapters throughout the region run by dedicated volunteers that have walked the path of childhood cancer with their loved ones.

About the Project

Volunteers will support Candlelighters For Children With Cancer by assembling “Home to Hospital” bags filled with essential items and comforting resources for families beginning their pediatric cancer journey. These bags provide practical support and reassurance during an overwhelming time, helping families know they are not alone.

In addition, volunteers will help organize Candlelighters’ office and program supplies, ensuring the organization can efficiently serve the hundreds of children and families who rely on its programs each year.

By participating in this project, you will directly support Candlelighters’ mission of providing hope, resources, and compassionate care to families navigating pediatric cancer. Whether you're packing bags or organizing supplies, every task helps strengthen the support network that families depend on during their cancer journey.
