Volunteer Opportunity
Help build the health and resilience of the urban forest at Tryon Creek.
About the Program
Our mission, in partnership with Oregon State Parks, is to inspire every community to identify, cultivate or reclaim their relationship with nature in this cherished urban forest.
About the Project
Depending on the season, Friends staff lead volunteers in removing ivy growing up mature trees, digging up blackberry along the ground, or planting and caring for new native trees and shrubs near the creek.
Volunteers are a key part in our efforts to enhance the overall health and resilience of the urban forest and community. Volunteer activities include hiking 1-2 miles from the Nature Center to the current project location, and using hand tools like clippers and shovels. Instructions, gloves, supervision, and tools are provided (feel free to bring your own gloves).

Project Requirements
- Age: Volunteers must be 14+; under 18 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.
- Accessibility: Activities include hiking 1-2 miles and access to unpaved surfaces.
- Dress code: Closed‑toe shoes and long pants that you can be active in.
