Opportunity Details

Mill Park Nature Guardians (age 6+) *Hands On*

Volunteer Opportunity

Join us to nurture community spirit while celebrating our shared passion for parks and green spaces!

About the Program

Portland Parks & Recreaction provides equitable access to welcoming places, programs, and services that improve community health and the environment, focusing on making parks safe, accessible, and responsive to diverse community needs through stewardship, equity, safety, and fostering well-being for all residents.

About the Project

Help us keep Mill Park’s shrub beds vibrant and weed-free!

Join Portland Parks & Recreation to help weed, prune, and mulch the shrub beds surrounding the community garden. Together, we’ll remove unwanted weeds, trim plants, clear trash, and enhance the soil to support a healthy, blooming garden!

When and Where
Starting the first Thursday in April, we’ll gather by the community garden beds at Mill Park from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This event will repeat on the first Thursday of every month through October 1st.

This is a wonderful chance to learn gardening skills, enjoy fresh air, and build connections with your neighbors. Each month’s activities may vary, and all skill levels are welcome— no experience needed!

What to wear/bring:
Please wear closed-toe shoes for safety. We work rain, shine, and in between, so please be prepared for the weather— sunscreen/hat for summer, rain gear for fall, and layers for cooler months. We also recommend bringing a water bottle and any snacks you may want. Tools and gloves will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own if you prefer!

Volunteers will learn how to identify common and invasive weeds in Portland gardens, master proper pruning techniques, and pick up helpful garden maintenance tips. Join us to nurture community spirit while celebrating our shared passion for parks and green spaces!
